Slitting is the process of taking full sized coils (48”, 60”, 72”, etc.) and precisely cutting the material into smaller widths that are applicable for a specific application. In fact, slit steel coils are used in a variety of industries including the production of steel tube and stampings. Maksteel offers slitting at multiple facilities across North America.

Blanking occurs when sheets and plates are cut to specific lengths and widths. Moreover, blanks are inventoried in common stock lengths and widths for a wide variety of customer projects.

Maksteel’s Dearborn, MI location houses a 491-foot pickling line. Moreover, to better service customers, the pickling line was upgraded in early 2020. Additionally, the objectives of the improvements include, but were not limited to:
- Eliminate Mechanical Pitting
- Dryness from Edge to Edge (no more pooling in the middle)
- Foundation leveling to improve coil threading
